The Honest Math on Our Wellness Membership

What it costs, how the credits actually work, why they cover every service we offer, and the kind of person who should not buy one.

Most massage memberships are built to be confusing. Use it or lose it. One service only. A number on the wall and a shrug at the front desk.

Ours is a credit system, which works differently, and the difference matters enough to explain properly. So here is the whole thing, including the part where we tell you not to buy it.

The short version

$90 a month buys $120 in credits. $125 a month buys $155. Credits work across any service we offer, roll over month to month, and can be shared with one other person. Four-month commitment, then cancel any time.

It is a wellness membership, not a massage membership

This is the part people get wrong, and it is the part that makes ours different from anything else in Central New York.

Your credits are not locked to massage. They work across everything we do: massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and fitness. Add-on services too, and retail if you want to put them there.

That matters because bodies do not stay in one lane. The month your low back seizes up, put your credits toward chiropractic. The month you are fighting a lingering pain that massage is not touching, try acupuncture. The month you are fine and just want maintenance, book your massage. Same membership, same credits, no phone call to change anything.

Most memberships in this market are single-service, because most clinics are single-service. Ours covers four because we run four.

How the credits actually work

  • You get more in credits than you pay. The 60-minute plan is $90 and issues $120. The 90-minute plan is $125 and issues $155. The gap is the discount, and it applies whether or not you use it that month.
  • If a treatment costs more, you pay only the difference. Say you hold the 60-minute plan and want a 60-minute deep tissue at $135. Your $120 covers most of it and you pay $15 at the desk. You are never blocked from booking what you actually want.
  • Unused credits roll over. A month where life gets away from you does not cost you anything. The credits are still there next month.
  • Oldest credits get used first. Credits expire 12 months after they are issued, but because we always spend your oldest ones first, members almost never actually lose any. You would have to go a full year without coming in.
  • You can share with one other person. Partners, spouses, a parent and a teenager. Two people, one plan, and the credits get used. This is the single best way to make a membership pay off.
  • Everything else gets a discount too. 15% off additional regularly priced treatments that month, $5 off add-ons, 10% off retail, $10 off gift certificates bought in clinic, and first priority on the waitlist when the schedule is tight.

Who should not buy this

The part other places leave out

A membership is a maintenance tool. It rewards a rhythm. If you do not have one, it is the wrong product for you.

If you come in two or three times a year, and you have nobody to share the plan with, do not buy a membership. You would be paying every month to build a balance you are unlikely to spend before it ages out. Buy a package or book single sessions instead. That is a real conversation we have at the front desk, and it usually ends with us talking someone out of the membership. We would rather do that than take your money for something that does not fit.

The flip side is simple. If you come in roughly monthly, or you and one other person can keep the credits moving between you, the membership is straightforwardly the cheaper way to do it.

The fine print, in plain language

Every membership has terms. Here are ours before you sign anything, not after.

  • Four months, then you are free. You commit to the first four payments. After that, cancel any time with no penalty. Cancelling inside those four months may mean a prorated charge. Written notice by email, five days before your billing date.
  • You can pause it. Once every 12 months, up to three months. You are not billed while paused and you do not earn new credits, but you can still spend the ones you have. Useful for surgery recovery, a stretch of travel, or a tight month.
  • A declined payment is not a penalty. Cards expire, accounts change. Get us a working payment method within five days and the insufficient funds fee is waived. We would rather fix it than fine you.
  • Billing is the 1st of the month, automatically. Your membership starts the day you sign up, then renews on the 1st going forward.
  • What credits will not cover. Already discounted services, discounted packages, and gratuities. Everything else at regular price is fair game.
  • The 24-hour cancellation window applies to members too. Less than 24 hours notice or a no-show means the session credit is redeemed. Same rule as everyone else, no surprises.

Why monthly is the number

The plan is built around monthly because that is the rhythm that actually works for most people. Tension does not vanish after one session. It rebuilds slowly, from desk work, from warehouse and nursing shifts, from a Central New York winter of shoveling. Monthly catches that buildup before it becomes something you feel.

If you are working through an active problem you may want to come more often for a stretch, then taper back down. The membership handles that fine, since credits roll and you can add sessions at 15% off. We wrote more about finding your own rhythm in our post on how often you should actually get a massage.

A little maintenance beats a lot of repair.

That is the entire theory behind the membership. Not a discount gimmick, a way to make consistency the easy choice instead of the thing you keep meaning to get around to.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Hand in Health monthly membership?

There are two plans. The 60-minute plan is $90 per month and issues $120 in credits. The 90-minute plan is $125 per month and issues $155 in credits. Both bill automatically on the 1st of each month.

What can membership credits be used for?

Credits work across any service we offer, not just massage. That includes massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and fitness, plus add-on services and retail items. If a treatment costs more than your credit balance, you pay only the difference. Credits cannot be applied to already discounted services, discounted packages, or gratuities.

Do unused membership credits expire?

Unused credits roll over month to month and expire 12 months after they are issued. Your oldest credits are always applied first, so in practice members rarely lose credits unless they go an entire year without coming in.

Can I share my membership with someone else?

Yes. You can share your membership benefits and credits with one additional person. A lot of couples and parent-and-teen pairs split a single plan, which is often the best way to make sure the credits get used.

Is there a contract or minimum commitment?

You commit to the first four months. After the fourth payment you can cancel any time with no penalty. Cancelling inside the first four months may mean a prorated charge for that initial period. Cancellation requires written notice by email to office@handinhealth.com at least five days before your next billing date.

Can I pause my membership?

Yes. You can pause once in any 12-month period for up to three months. While paused you are not billed and you do not earn new credits, but you can still use credits you have already accrued. Contact us by phone or email at least five business days before your next billing cycle.

What happens if my membership payment does not go through?

Just get us a working payment method within five days and there is no fee. The insufficient funds fee is waived as long as the payment is resolved inside that window. Cards expire and accounts change, and we would rather sort it out than charge you for it.

Who should not buy a massage membership?

If you realistically come in only two or three times a year and have nobody to share the plan with, a membership is not the right fit. You would be paying monthly for credits you are unlikely to use before they expire. Packages or single sessions make more sense in that case, and we will tell you so.

Does the membership cover chiropractic and acupuncture?

Yes. Credits can be applied across our services, so a member can use them toward chiropractic, acupuncture, or fitness as well as massage. Members also receive 15 percent off additional regularly priced treatments during the month.
