Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
Dr. Koh has specialized prenatal training. Before joining Hand in Health, he spent several years working alongside a prenatal chiropractor. Pregnant patients see him for low back, hip and pelvic discomfort as their body changes.
Check with your doctor or midwife before your first visit, especially if your pregnancy is high-risk. You can pair chiropractic care with prenatal massage on the same day or on different days.
How a Visit With Dr. Koh Is Different
Many chiropractic visits are a quick 3 to 5 minute adjustment. Dr. Koh takes his time. He works on your muscles first, then adjusts, then helps you keep the progress going.
- Soft tissue first: myofascial release, massage and trigger point therapy, usually with a percussive device to prepare the tissues and improve blood flow before he adjusts, at no extra charge.
- Then the adjustment: Diversified, Gonstead, Activator or Active Release Technique, chosen for you and explained before he starts.
- Then stretching and self-care: assisted stretching to finish, plus simple self-care steps for whatever brought you in.

Chiropractic Services
Initial Chiropractic Exam & Adjustment
Your first chiropractic visit takes about 45 minutes. Dr. Koh starts with your health history and a conversation about your goals. Next comes a physical exam, including posture and range-of-motion checks. Range of motion is how far a joint can comfortably move. If it’s appropriate, he’ll adjust you and plan next steps together.
Patients often come to him for neck, back and hip pain, headaches and sciatica. Sciatica is pain that travels from the low back down the leg. Dr. Koh’s techniques include Diversified, Gonstead, Activator and Active Release Technique. These are different styles of adjustment and soft-tissue work. He’ll explain what he recommends before he starts.

Follow-Up Chiropractic Adjustment
Follow-up visits take about 20 minutes and build on the plan from your first visit. Dr. Koh does hands-on work on your muscles, then targeted adjustments focused on the areas you’ve talked about. You’ll also leave with simple stretches or self-care tips for home.
How often should you come back? It varies from person to person. Dr. Koh suggests a plan after your first visit and talks it through with you. Tell him how you’ve felt since your last visit, so he can shape the session around it.
Chiropractic Add-Ons
Add-ons let you add a little extra to your chiropractic visit. You choose them from the add-on list when you book online. Each one is optional, and none of them is required for an adjustment. Dr. Koh can help you decide what fits. Here’s what’s on the list:
- Extra soft-tissue time: about 10 extra minutes of hands-on muscle work.
- CBD lotion: applied to targeted areas for comfort and relaxation (contains trace amounts of THC). Skip it if you’re drug tested.
- Moist heat packs: warmth to help your muscles relax.
- Muscle scraping: instrument-assisted soft-tissue work, where a smooth tool glides over tight areas.
- Kinesiology taping: stretchy tape, such as RockTape, for support between visits.

Chiropractic FAQs
How much does a chiropractic visit cost?
Your first visit is a 45-minute exam and adjustment for $110. Follow-up adjustments are 20 minutes and $65. Members save $10 on their first visit and $5 on follow-ups. New patients can also request a free consultation first by calling Downtown at 315-937-5953 or North Syracuse at 315-937-5954. We accept HSA and FSA cards.
Is a visit with Dr. Koh just a quick adjustment?
No. Dr. Koh starts with your muscles and soft tissue, using methods like myofascial release, massage and trigger point therapy, usually with a percussive device to prepare the tissues and improve blood flow, at no extra charge. Then he adjusts. He finishes with assisted stretching and self-care steps you can do at home.
Can a chiropractor help with sciatica or a herniated disc?
Dr. Koh regularly sees patients with sciatica, disc bulges and herniations, and nerve pain or numbness. Your first visit starts with a full exam, so he can explain what he finds and what he recommends. If he thinks you need imaging or another provider, he will refer you out. If you have sudden leg weakness, numbness in the groin area, or trouble controlling your bladder or bowels, get emergency care right away.
Can I see a chiropractor while pregnant?
Yes. Dr. Andrew Koh, DC, our chiropractor, has specialized training in working with prenatal patients. You can book chiropractic care and prenatal massage on the same day or on different days, whichever you prefer. Share any health concerns first, and check with your doctor or midwife if your pregnancy is high-risk.
What should I expect at my first chiropractic visit?
Your first visit takes about 45 minutes and starts with a conversation. Dr. Koh reviews your health history and asks about your goals. Then he does a physical exam, including posture and range-of-motion checks. If an adjustment is appropriate, he’ll do one. You’ll finish with a plan for next steps, so you know what comes after.
Can I pair chiropractic care with massage?
Yes. Dr. Koh works alongside our team of licensed massage therapists, so many patients pair an adjustment with massage to address both joints and muscles. Our Chiropractic + Massage Bundle takes 30% off an Initial Chiropractic Exam and Adjustment plus a 60-minute Therapeutic, Sports, Prenatal, Medical or Reiki Bodywork massage. To learn how the two work together, read Chiropractic and Massage: Why Pair Them?
Will a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most people feel little discomfort during an adjustment. Some feel mild soreness afterward, but not everyone does. Dr. Koh explains what he’s doing before he starts. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell him right away. He can change his approach or use a different technique. You’re always in charge of what feels right for your body.
How many chiropractic visits will I need?
It varies from person to person, so there’s no set number. After your first visit, Dr. Koh suggests a plan based on your exam and your goals. Follow-up visits take about 20 minutes. You can talk through the plan with him at any point and change it as your needs change.
Do I need a referral or X-rays to see a chiropractor?
No, you don’t need X-rays or a doctor’s script to book. X-rays are not done here. If Dr. Koh thinks you need imaging, he’ll refer you out to have it done. Most patients simply book online and come in for their first visit.
How does payment work? Do you take insurance?
Chiropractic care at Hand in Health is self-pay. We accept HSA and FSA cards. We also provide superbills on request. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can send to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. Whether your plan pays you back depends on your plan, so check with your insurer first.
What should I wear to a chiropractic visit?
Comfortable clothes you can move in usually work best. Dr. Koh will check your posture and how your joints move, so stretchy, easy clothing helps. Think workout clothes or something relaxed. If you’re adding kinesiology taping, clothing that gives easy access to the area is a good idea too.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged 100% of the service. No-call/no-shows are also charged 100%. Arriving 15 or more minutes late counts as a no-show. If plans change, let us know as early as you can.
