Covid-19 Update as of 11/25/2020
Due to an increasing infection rate in our community, Governor Cuomo has instated restrictions as part of the Cluster Zone Initiative. At this time, our North Syracuse Clinic is located in a Yellow Zone while our Downtown Clinic is located in an Orange Zone. Here’s how this may affect your services at Hand in Health:
North Syracuse: while we are categorized in the Yellow Zone, we may continue to provide all our wellness services per normal in our North Syracuse Clinic. We will continue to uphold all NYS and CDC guidelines for our profession and the highest standards of cleanliness to protect our patients and providers.
Downtown Syracuse: while we are categorized in the Orange Zone, we may continue to provide “medically necessary massage” services. Fitness services will be suspended at this time as well as our Couples Massage treatments. While spa’s are specifically instructed to shutdown in an Orange Zone, a clinic such as ours that is focused on orthopedic and medical massage services may continue to remain open with these restrictions. We will continue to uphold all NYS and CDC guidelines for our profession and the highest standards of cleanliness in our clinic to protect our patients and providers.
What is “medically necessary massage”? NYS has yet to clarify this terminology. The US Government defines “medically necessary” as “health care services or supplies needed to diagnose or treat an illness, injury, condition, disease or its symptoms and that meet accepted standards of medicine” (https://www.healthcare.gov/glossary/medically-necessary/ ). Therefore, we ask all our patients to consider their individual circumstances to determine if their massage treatment is medically necessary. Such examples of a medically necessary massage may be to treat symptoms of pain, injury, anxiety, etc. Our highly trained medical providers would be happy to have a conversation with you to determine if massage therapy is an appropriate treatment for your during this temporary restriction. In addition, we have temporarily added a screening question to our online booking system for you to clarify what your medical necessity is when booking online at our Downtown Clinic.
Do I need a script or doctor’s note to receive massage treatment? No. NYS Office of Professions states that a script or doctor’s note is not required for massage treatments. However, if you would like to provide this documentation it would be gladly accepted. We encourage all our patients who are uncertain if they should receive massage treatments at this time to have a conversation with their physician.
What about my Monthly Massage Membership? If you are enrolled in our Membership program you may pause or cancel your membership at any time. You may still visit our North Syracuse Clinic per normal or our Downtown Clinic for “medically necessary massage’. Please keep in mind your membership credits do not expire for 12 months and are automatically rolled over. You may also elect to use your membership massage credits for gift certificates during the holidays.

The team at Hand in Health is confident that after this temporary restriction we will be able to resume normal business operations in the near future. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information from local and state officials.

Know the Risk
The nature of our work does not allow for social distancing. Despite our new guidelines, there are no guarantees that we can completely protect our patients and providers from Covid-19. So please, keep in mind the following:
If you are among a population that is especially vulnerable to COVID-19, please consider your individual health circumstances carefully before scheduling.
Patients will need to complete the following update to our health disclosures: I understand that, because massage therapy work involves maintained touch and close physical proximity over an extended period of time, there may be an elevated risk of disease transmission, including COVID-19. By signing this form, I acknowledge that I am aware of the risks involved and give consent to receive massage and bodywork from this provider.
